Finding my recipient’s SWIFT/BIC code

Last updated: 08/02/2018 12.54 PM

How do I obtain a SWIFT/BIC code?

SWIFT stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication and BIC stands for Bank Identifier Code. Together they make up the 8-11 character identification code of a bank or financial institution.

  • Contact your recipient, the recipient’s bank, or refer to their website.
  • On the SWIFT website:
    • Locate and select the BIC Search function on the page (or go to online BIC Search)
    • Search for the SWIFT/BIC code by entering the Institution name, City and Country
