Instead of using a card number, Apple Pay uses a unique Device Account Number (Token) issued by Visa. When a customer makes a purchase, this number, along with a transaction-specific code, is used to process the payment – meaning you will never see card details.
Tokens provide additional security as the card number is not shared and the token is designated for a particular use only. If the token number is stolen, it can’t be used outside Apple Pay.
The last four digits of the Device Account Number will appear on customer receipts instead of the last four digits of the card number.
